About the Internship

From May 22, 2018 to June 21, 2018, I completed a 150-hour internship at UNC Asheville's Study Abroad Office.  As the office does not see much student interaction over the summer months, the staff uses this time to catch up on work or to tackle projects for which they would normally have very little time during the academic year.  When I arrived in the office on the first day of the internship, the staff asked for my help with the latter.

Specifically, I was tasked with completing two major projects.  The first project was to design new brochures for study abroad exchange, language, and summer programs offered in partnerships with foreign institutions.  The second was to create an online pre-departure orientation to supplement (and eventually replace) the in-person orientations that the office hosts multiple times each year.  While I was there, I also compiled supplemental resource sheets for the following diverse groups of students interested in studying abroad:  women, LGBTQ students, student veterans, students of color, students with disabilities, and first generation students.

This website contains a record of each of the items I produced for the Study Abroad Office, as well as a reflection on my experiences and time working there. Please proceed to the "Learning Contract" page to learn about the expectations and goals for the internship that I set with my supervisor, Cara.
