Learning Contract Content

Below is the learning contract I created with my supervisor to guide my work in the office and my interactions with the staff.

I. Specific Duties or Projects

Throughout the course of this internship, Caitlin’s duties will include the following:
1.  Reviewing orientation materials for outgoing students, determining what information  we can make available to students online, and creating an online pre-departure orientation for the Study Abroad Office. 
2.  Developing video content or a quiz to ensure that students have met learning outcomes for online information sessions.
3.  Researching some of the printable materials for study abroad programs available at other universities, and if necessary, creating flyers or promotional materials for the programs offered at UNC Asheville.
4.  Reviewing the Global Ambassador program and brainstorming the following:
     a.Ways to ensure either that the program remains self-directed (teachers reach out to our students to schedule presentation times) or to set up a way for student workers to take point here.
     b.Ways to recruit more students to participate in the program.
5.Brainstorming ways to collaborate or create partnerships with other departments on campus.
6.Assisting members of the office with other tasks or projects as needed.

II. Learning Objectives:

By the end of this internship, Caitlin will have....
1.  Gained a thorough understanding of what various careers in study abroad might entail (especially the “behind the scenes” work) by working with and observing each member of the office.
2.Become familiar with the Terra Dotta/TDS/Studio Abroad software and any other programs relevant to work in this field.
3.Developed best practices for future use not only in a study abroad setting, but also for working with other student affairs professionals across campus and beyond.
4.If at all possible, gained experience working with students wishing to study abroad (I understand that this might not happen, as the office tends to be quiet in summer
months)


III. Provision for Instruction from Site Supervisor:

1.Caitlin and Cara will meet once a week to review the work that Caitlin has done and to discuss any issues or questions that either party might have.
2.Caitlin will have an opportunity to work one-on-one with each member of the study abroad office to learn more about what each person does and to assist with various aspects of that work.
